“I Can’t I Won’t I Will I Do” Solo Exhbition at ReflectSpace Gallery!

I am thrilled to have a solo exhibition at ReflectSpace Gallery, part of Glendale Arts and Culture, opening Saturday January 28th and on view through March 19,2023.
Curated by the wonderful Ara and Anahid Oshagan of Glendale.

The title of the show is based on a work of the same name:
“I Can’t I Won’t I Will I Do”, 2022, 13 x 71.5″, repurposed table runner, paint, hemp cord and linen thread

In July I started a new Artist Residency in Bookmaking, “We Write the Book” at the West Valley Regional Branch Library of the Los Angeles Public Library, through the Los Angeles City Department of Cultural Affairs.

The Residency is comprised of a series of bookmaking workshops presented at the Library, planned in close coordination with Library Staff.

October 20th, 2022, we had a blast learning to create “TUNNEL BOOKS” in celebration of upcoming Halloween!

Crafty Craft Lab Tunnel Books at Craft Contemporary!!!

Friday Art Night—Fantastic Flag Books

Friday Art Night classes are a great way to end the week!

Visit Objects of Desire: Photography and the Language of Advertising and create a fun flag book structure, learn to fold an accordion spine, design your own covers and flag pages that reveal a pattern when opened, and express your own special message using text and images. With artist Debra Disman.

This program will take place indoors on LACMA’s campus. Supplies are included with tuition.

About the Instructor

Debra Disman is a Los Angeles–based artist working primarily in the form of the book, both as a solo practitioner and in the public sphere of community engagement. She works across Los Angeles County in schools, museums, libraries, and other community settings. She holds a BA in painting from the University of Iowa and a certificate in Social Emotional Arts (SEA) from UCLArts & Healing. She shows her work nationally, and is a member of the Guild of Book Workers and the International Association of Colour Consultants/Designers.

Masks are strongly recommended indoors for everyone.
