ARTIST'S BOOKS
“Santa Monica Eats” Bookmaking Program at the Santa Monica Public Library!
Make an accordion fold book with pockets to keep your favorite recipes in! Adorn with decorative papers, textures, ribbons and pop-ups you cut yourself right in the folds of your book!
LACMA LOCAL BOOKMAKING CLASS!
Join us November 4th, from 10AM - 1PM and learn to create the fun and innovative flag book! Fold an accordion spine, add book covers, and attach your flag book pages to create a pattern that moves as you open the book! Add text to your "flags", inspired by Barbara Kruger's "Shafted" elevator piece, and see the poetry unfold. Led by artist Debra Disman.
LACMA Local is something brand new: a membership designed to create a LACMA community and connect people to one another, with the museum as the catalyst for these connections.
Locals are invited to events that take place twice a month on Saturdays, designed to encourage members of LACMA Local to make friends, participate, and connect. Check out the complete listings to see what's coming up!
As a LACMA Local, you'll be invited to attend as many events as you like. You can add LACMA Local to a current membership for $25 per person (up to two people per membership), or join a la carte for $40.
LACMA Local is for anyone who likes LACMA and is interested in forming bonds with other people who are into LACMA. It's not about how old you are or where you're from or what you do. Everyone is welcome.
Flag Books & Found Writing with Debra Disman
Join us for public workshops in bookmaking and more at the Camera Obscura Art Lab at 1450 Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica!
These workshops are being offered as part of my Studio Residency at the Art Lab, January 13-April 14, 2018.
I will be creating and teaching in the beautiful Mid-century building that houses the Art Lab, overlooking Santa Monica Beach and the blue Pacific!
Learn the fun and innovative flag book structure.
Fold an accordion spine, add book covers, and attach your flag pages to a kinetic book whose parts move as you page through.
You can write in or use preexisting print media to add text to your flags. As they move and flip, poetic connections in your found writing appear!
