“FORMATION”: The Guild of Book Workers 2018-2019 Traveling Juried Exhibition
I am extremely honored to have two pieces in FORMATION, The Guild of Book Workers 2018-2019 traveling juried exhibition, with a theme evoking a wide array of interpretations.
Simply defined by Merriam Webster as “an act of giving form or shape to something,” ‘formation‘ can insinuate process, history, creation, change, beginnings, an arrangement, botany and landscape, personal narratives and impersonal storytelling. As artists, designers and craftspeople with our own histories that form us, we also play a vital role in the formation of objects and experiences; pulp molded into paper, paper folded into books, books shelved into a library.
What is the final product, if not for the methods used to create it? What makes us into the artists we are? What pushes us to continue to create?

Join us to celebrate the Martin Luther King holiday and freedom in all its forms.
This program is part of my Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs Artist Residency at the Granada Hills Branch – Los Angeles Public Library.

Bookmaking Workshop at the Silverlake Independent JCC
Silverlake Independent JCC 1110 Bates Avenue, Los Angeles, CA, United StatesFlag Bookmaking Workshop held for 5th graders on the theme of Shalom Bayit - Peace of the Home, as part of The Art of Ethics theme at the marvelous Silverlake Independent JCC.
While traditionally described as matrimonial harmony, we're into expanding the theme to include sibling harmony and all those in our homes.
This workshop is for those enrolled in the weekly calls, and part of the SLIJCC Visiting Educator Artist program.

To honor African-American History Month we will develop our books with images of barrier-breaking members of this community who created their own brand of fireworks and changed our country, our culture, and our world.

Resident artists will be opening their studios at this event, including visiting Danish artists Jeannette Ehlers, Nikolaj Recke, and Marie Markman. Local artist residents including Marcus Kuiland-Nazario, Debra Disman, Jeff Beall, Luciana Abait, Arzu Arda Kosar, Post Mango Studio, David McDonald, and Yvette Gellis will also be showing new work in their studios.
