Learn the fun and innovative flag book structure.
Fold an accordion spine, add book covers, and attach your flag pages to a kinetic book whose parts move as you page through.
You can write in or use preexisting print media to add text to your flags. As they move and flip, poetic connections in your found writing appear!

Create a multidimensional Tunnel Book utilizing strategic cutouts. With the accordion fold and framing techniques, explore a "layered view" that creates the setting for a dramatic scene and story that moves back and forth in space and possibly in time! Go your own pace and come away with a unique card or booklet.

Design a book that can be rolled up! Create gorgeous marbled papers and while they dry, assemble a scroll substrate. Write a proclamation, draw/paint something wonderful, or leave blank for later. Just add a hanger for wall display. Bring an apron and wear clothes you don't mind getting a stray splash on.

Construct an extending pop-up book of repeated forms that grows from all sides as it unfolds. As you lift the book, pages pop out from the sides to explosively grand effect in a colorful display of pattern and shape.

Create a single signature (a gathering of folded pages) book with a simple binding. Create texture by adding cloth, papers and natural materials to the covers. Come away with a unique sewn book to use as a notebook, sketchbook, journal or gift!

I am developing a gigantic group-created book - the Big Beach Book - during my residency, and you are invited to learn bookmaking skills while taking part! Put your own mark on the 5'9" high book while exploring stencil and stamp techniques, then create a small stamped/stenciled takeaway card in the same format.

Explore mural and decorative painting techniques on Big Beach Book pages using paint pens - with the view out the Art Lab window and the surrounding environment for inspiration. Use your newly acquired techniques on a takeaway card!
