DESCRIPTION:As part of presented by Craft in America\, \nTextile Arts LA presents:\nHandwork\, The Material Intelligence of Touch!\n\nAt the Marks Center\, College of the Desert.\nThe exhibit brings together artists from Textile Arts LA whose work centers the hand as both method and metaphor. Inspired by artist Ann Hamilton’s concept of the “sewing hand”—the idea that making by hand is a way of knowing—we explore how tactile engagement with material connects body to mind\, individual to community\, and past to present.\nPlease VIEW THE SHOW HERE \nI am delighted to participate with two works included:\n\n“Communion“\, 2025\, 10.5 x 21.5 x 8.5” (dimensions variable)\, wood\, hemp/assorted cord\, acrylic paint \n\n“La Forêt I“\, 2024\, 62 x 17 x 1”\, canvas\, acrylic paint\, hemp/jute/cotton cord

SUMMARY:EXHIBITIONISTA: 'Common Threads: The Fabric of our Community' at Studio ACE Gallery
DESCRIPTION:I am thrilled to participate in:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n‘Common Threads: The Fabric of our Community’\n\n\n\nOPENING: Saturday\, February 21\, 2026 from 5 PM to 7 PM\nat\nStudio ACE Gallery\n\n\n\n\nStudio ACE Gallery presents: “Common Threads: The Fabric of Our Community\,” a group exhibition celebrating the rich\, expressive world of textiles and fiber arts. \nShowing\, “FINALLY”\, 48 x 19.5″\, canvas\, lace\, hemp cord\, sewing thread\n\nTextiles—among the oldest and most universal artistic mediums—carry stories in every stitch. Woven\, sewn\, dyed\, layered\, felted\, quilted\, knotted\, or repurposed\, fiber-based materials offer a tactile language that speaks to memory\, identity\, resilience\, and cultural tradition. From the intimate textures of handwork to bold contemporary experiments with fabric\, thread\, and mixed media\, textile art reminds us that creativity is something we all touch\, wear\, and share. \nThis exhibition presents works that explore connection—connections between people\, cultures\, materials\, and ideas. We welcome pieces that honor traditional craft\, push the boundaries of fiber as a modern art form\, or reimagine textiles in unexpected ways. Whether your work is deeply personal\, abstract\, conceptual\, or rooted in community stories\, we want to hear your voice. Join us as we bring together the diverse perspectives that make up the fabric of our community. \n“Common Threads: The Fabric of Our Community” will be on view at ACE Gallery (inside Studio ACE) from Saturday\, February 21\, through Friday\, March 27\, 2026\, with an opening reception celebration taking place on Saturday\, February 21\, from 5-7 p.m. Please view exhibited works HERE!\nCheck out Studio ACE on Facebook / Instagram \n\n\n\nEvent Supported By\nStudio ACE\n7607305203\ninfo@studioace.org\nhttps://www.studioace.org/\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Startup Art Fair LA: SHOEBOX Arts Initiative: Call and Response Collaborative Books
DESCRIPTION:Call and Response Goes Live at Startup Art Fair \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSomething big is happening. \n\n\nAfter five years of digital exchanges connecting artists across six continents\, Call and Response is going physical for the first time. \n\n\nStartup Art Fair LA | February 27 – March 1\, 2026The Kinney Venice Beach | Room 202\n\n \n\n\nTHE PROJECT \n\n\nIn October 2025\, we randomly paired 190 artists to create collaborative books together. Four months later\, we have approximately 90 unique collaborative works—oracle decks\, teabag weavings\, painted photographs\, sculptural volumes\, accordion books\, visual puzzles. \n\n\nEach book represents a creative conversation between two strangers who had never met. From India to Iowa\, Germany to the United Arab Emirates—artists navigated time zones\, shipping logistics\, language barriers\, and completely different creative approaches to make something neither could have conceived alone. \n\n\nThis is Call and Response at its core: random pairing\, radical trust\, real collaboration.\n \nCall and Response\, a global artist collaboration program that has connected over 500 artists across six continents since 2020\, makes its first physical iteration at Startup Art Fair LA. \nAfter 20+ digital rounds of rapid-fire creative exchanges during the pandemic\, this exhibition marks a significant evolution: 190 artists were randomly paired to create collaborative books together over four months. Partners worked either by mailing physical books back and forth internationally or creating pieces individually and combining them—navigating time zones\, language barriers\, shipping logistics\, and completely different artistic approaches to produce works that neither artist could have conceived alone. \nRoom 202 will showcase approximately 90 collaborative artist books across all mediums—from altered vintage volumes to handmade constructions\, accordion books\, visual puzzles\, oracle decks\, and sculptural interpretations. The intimate hotel suite setting allows visitors to interact closely with each unique work\, displayed throughout the space on beds\, tables\, and dressers. \nThis is a selling exhibition with works split equally between the two collaborating artists and Shoebox Arts. Each book represents the artifact of a four-month creative conversation between strangers who became collaborators through Call and Response’s signature random pairing method—a model that continues to prove quality collaboration doesn’t require institutional gatekeepers\, just radical trust in the creative process. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTHE EXHIBITION \n\n\nLocation: The Kinney Venice Beach\, 737 Washington Blvd\, Venice\, CA 90292Room: 202 \n\n\nHours: \n\n\n\n\nFriday\, February 27: VIP Early Access 5-7pm | All Access 7-10pm \n\n\nSaturday\, February 28: 12pm – 9pm \n\n\nSunday\, March 1: 12pm – 7pm \n\n\n\n\nThe intimate hotel suite setting allows visitors to interact closely with each work—books displayed throughout the space on beds\, tables\, and dressers. This is a selling exhibition with works split equally between the two collaborating artists and Shoebox Arts. \n\n\nGet Tickets: www.startup-art.com/los-angeles\nMy work in progress with artist Michelle Robinson\n \n  \n\n\nLIVE: EXQUISITE CORPSE ZINE MAKING \n\n\nThroughout the weekend\, fair visitors can participate in collaborative exquisite corpse zine-making sessions. Create art together with strangers\, experience the Call and Response philosophy in real time. \n\n\nAll completed zines will be auctioned off for charity. \n\n\nWHY THIS MATTERS \n\n\nCall and Response started in April 2020 when everything shut down. Artists needed each other but all the structures for connection had disappeared. \n\n\nWhat began as a pandemic response—pairing artists randomly for two-week digital exchanges—became proof that meaningful collaboration doesn’t require institutional permission. No fees. No applications. No gatekeepers. Just artists supporting artists through creative exchange. \n\n\nTwenty rounds later\, the model has facilitated lasting partnerships\, gallery exhibitions\, and creative community across cultural and geographic boundaries. Artists like Jody Zellen and Lorraine Bubar met through Call and Response and went on to exhibit at Proxy Gallery. \n\n\nOthers discovered new techniques\, explored different media\, found creative community during isolation. \n\n\nThis exhibition at Startup Art Fair marks the next evolution: collaboration that exists in three dimensions\, works you can hold in your hands\, partnerships that produced physical objects through radical trust. \n\n\nFOLLOW THE PROJECT \n\nInstagram: @callandresponseart Facebook: Call and Response Email: callandresponseart@gmail.com\n\n\nWant to bring Call and Response to your organization? We’re developing curriculum and training for institutions interested in facilitating collaborative programs.\n\n\nABOUT SHOEBOX ARTS \n\n\nShoebox Arts connects artists to opportunities and builds creative community through programs like Call and Response and Perceive Me. Operating from the Brewery Arts Complex in Los Angeles\, we eliminate barriers to meaningful artistic exchange. \n\nInstagram: @shoeboxarts.la Email: shoeboxartsla@gmail.com\nCome see what happens when 190 artists trust the process across continents.\n\n\nKristine Schomaker Shoebox Arts\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:EXHIBITIONISTA: "HOME v.2: Homeland"
DESCRIPTION: I am thrilled to participate in “HOME v.2: Homeland”\, an exhibition presented by the Decatur Arts Alliance\, happening in Decatur\, Georgia\nMay 29 – July 18\, 2026 \nThe Decatur Arts Alliance and the Decatur Land Trust are partnering with the Decatur Library to present the second edition of powerful art show celebrating the multifaceted meaning of “Home.”\nArtists working in an array of mediums lend their creative voices to this important cause. \nThe theme for “HOME v.2 2026” is “HOMELAND.” \n“A person’s or a people’s native land\, we look to explore “homeland” as a geographical point of origin and a state of being. Works should express cultural and ethnic elements\, and elucidate the view of “home” from the immigrant to the expatriate\, the displaced to the indigenous. How do we find “home” when we are away from the land of our forebears? What do newly arrived peoples do to preserve their culture and heritage? How do we honor and acknowledge the indigenous inhabitants of the lands upon which we all now live? \nThe exhibiting artists’ creativity illuminate the diverse ways we experience and define “home\,” and their connection with a “HOMELAND.” \n  \nI will be showing:\n“Torrent and Tangle: Keep Your House in Order”\n\n\n  \n\n\n  \nThe HOME Exhibition is a multimedia showcase presented by the Decatur Arts Alliance in collaboration with the Decatur Land Trust and the Decatur branch of the Dekalb County Public Library.
