DESCRIPTION:TENUOUS THREADS\nContemporary Work Incorporating Textiles\, Fibers\, Threads and Mixed Media\nJanuary 24th – February 11\, 2023\nOpening reception of Tenuous Threads: January 26th\, 5:30pm-8pm: \nAtlantic Gallery\, located in the historic Landmark Arts Building in Chelsea NYC\,  presents the exhibition: Tenuous Threads\, juried by Patricia Miranda\n\nAll of life is connected through networks\, systems\, fibers and webs. Communication (visual\, verbal\, electrical\, chemical\, and kinetic) enables an exchange of information amongst all life forms. Tenuous Threads alludes to the delicate lines that bring us together and sets us apart; that joins us yet repels us. This show features innovative artworks that utilize textiles\, fibers\, threads (natural and synthetic) in sculpture\, collage\, 3D and 2D mixed media that communicates the strength and fragility of what binds all life.

SUMMARY:EXHIBITIONISTA: "50 Years of Fiber"
DESCRIPTION:The annual Fiber Artists of San Antonio 2022 Art Exhibition will be held November 6 through December 9\, at the Kelso Art Center\, University of Incarnate Word\, San Antonio\, TX. The theme of the exhibit\, “50 Years of Fiber Art\,” celebrates the organization’s half century history. The show presents fiber artists from across the U.S. considering each decade since the 1970s as inspiration for their fiber art work. \n*DEFINITION OF FIBER\, as extracted from Merriam-Webster Dictionary: 1. A thread or structure or object resembling a thread; 2. A slender and greatly elongated natural or synthetic filament) such as wool\, cotton\, gold\, asbestos\, glass or rayon) which typically can be spun into yarn; 3. Material made of fibers (includes paper)\, fabric\, plastic or metal fibers\, tapestry\, art cloth.\nThe exhibition is juried by Paula Owen.\nOwen\, president emerita of Southwest School of Art\, began her tenure in1996\, following 11 years as the Director of the Visual Arts Center in Richmond\, Virginia. Under her leadership the school’s size\, scope\, and reputation grew significantly\, and in 2014 a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program was added. In 2022 Southwest School of Art and University of Texas at San Antonio announced a merger to create a new and expanded school of art. \nOwen has served as curator of numerous exhibits and on national and regional boards and panels\, including the Pew Artist Fellowships\, the Bush Foundation Fellowships\, and the National Endowment for the Arts. She is a published arts writer and co-authored the book\, Objects and Meaning: New Perspec5ves on Art and Craft:\, published by Scarecrow Press. Most recently\, her essay “Fabrication and Encounter: When Content is a Verb\,” was published in Maria Elena Buzcek’s book\, Extra/Ordinary: Craft and Contemporary Art. \nOwen earned an MFA in painting and printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University and continues to show her work in group and solo shows throughout the nation. \n\nI am thrilled to be showing:\n“Rent Wound Tear\, Mend Heal Repair”\nThe first time this triptych will be shown outside of Los Angeles.

DESCRIPTION:I am thrilled to participate in: \n“Telling Stories”\nSATURDAY\, OCTOBER 22\, 2022 3-5pm PST: Zoom Opening Reception and artist talks\nPresented by Shoebox Projects\nCurated by Michelle Robinson\, Artist and Curator\n“Art and craft are means to tell stories visually. Through mythology\, fairy tales\, cultural commentary\, dream imagery\, family history\, and personal narrative\, art has sought to examine the challenges and mysteries of how we live; to interpret and understand our world and share those thoughts with others. This exhibition showcases how artists are telling stories now\, from abstract and non-linear to representational and narratives” at Shoebox Projects“\nSee the show and hear the Artists Talk HERE!\nI am showing: Chromatic Interactions: The Golden Thread\, 2020\, 76 x 90 x 1.5″\, mixed media installation utilizing file cards written and drawn upon by Craft Contemporary Museum patrons participating in my commissioned interactive artists’ book project: Chromatic Interactions\n    \n\nMichelle Robinson studied architecture and visualization at Texas A&M University\, producing animated short films that were shown at the Walker Art Center\, the Dallas Museum of Art\, and The AFI National Video Festival. She has been an artist and supervisor with Walt Disney Animation Studios for over 28 years\, with credits that include Frozen\, Zootopia\, and most recently\, Head of Characters on Encanto. She also holds an MFA from New Hampshire Institute of Art and has had her work published in Diffusion of Light\, The Hand\, and Precog magazine. Spokes Gallery featuring  artists creating work on\, with\, or about paper. \nI am showing:   \n“Throes of the Body”\n\n \n  \nJuror: Kiko Aebi is a Curatorial Assistant in the Department of Drawings and Prints at The Museum of Modern Art\, a position which she has held since 2019. In this role\, she has provided exhibition and acquisition support on various projects. Most recently\, she worked with Senior Curator Jodi Hauptman and Associate Curator Samantha Friedman on Cézanne Drawing (2021) and contributed texts to the associated exhibition catalogue. She is the recipient of a Fulbright Research Grant and holds an M.A. in Contemporary Art History from Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and a B.A. in Art History and Environmental Studies from Amherst College. \nWorks by the winners of the international Paperworks 2022 competition will be on display on the Gallery website from August 1 – 31\, 2022. DESCRIPTION:I am thrilled to participate in the third exhibition featuring works created by the talented members of the California Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers at the San Francisco Center for the Book\,\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\nBook / Art / Artifact: Work from the CA Chapter of the Guild of Bookworkers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEXHIBITION DATES: Saturday\, June 11 – Sunday\, August 28\, 2022\n\nThe exhibition Book/Art/Artifact showcases work from the California Chapter of the national organization the Guild of Book Workers. Book/Art/Artifact is the third major members’ exhibition; previous exhibitions have been presented at the Geisel Special Collections Library at the University of California San Diego (2016) and the Long Beach Museum of Art (2019). As with previous exhibitions\, Book/Art/Artifact highlights a range of member expertise and imagination. Exhibited mediums include bookbinding\, letterpress\, artists’ books\, and calligraphy. DESCRIPTION:In celebration of alternative uses of fiber and textile material\, The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts  (LHUCA) is proud to present: \nAlternative Fiber: A National Juried Exhibition.\n \nIn recent years the use of fiber and textile has greatly expanded creating art that no longer easily fits into the category of craft.  New art has been constructed utilizing these materials in both sculptural\, two dimensional\, and even installation practice.  LHUCA’s exhibition will focus on these ideas as we aim to create a juried art show highlighting the many alternative ideas present in these mediums. \nI have two pieces in this exciting exhibition!\n“Hopes and Fears and…” which won HONORABLE MENTION!\nand\n“Torrent and Tangle: Keep Your House in Order\n\n\nJuror: Karena Bennett: Over the last two decades\, Karena has worked with a variety of arts organizations across the Northwest ranging from small galleries to higher education institutions including most recently the Confluence Project and Caldera Arts. Currently\, she serves as Executive Director of Surface Design Association (SDA)\, an international non-profit focused on fiber art and design. Since 1977\, SDA has promoted artists around the world through exhibitions\, events\, and its quarterly publication\, Surface Design Journal. \nFounded in 1997\, LHUCA\, the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts\, is a nationally recognized private\, 501(c)(3) non-profit fine arts center. Located in the heart of the Lubbock Arts District\, LHUCA has a unique four block campus that offers exciting spaces and opportunities for the visual and performing arts. LHUCA is the largest contemporary art center between Dallas/Fort Worth\, TX and Santa Fe\, NM. This exhibition will be on display for First Friday Art Trails reaching over 4\,000+ visitors.
