SUMMARY:EXHIBITIONISTA: "Paper + Fiber" at 1202 Contemporary

SUMMARY:EXHIBITIONISTA: "REWRITING HER STORY" at the Hera Gallery
DESCRIPTION:“Writer Elizabeth Lesser asks “What story would Eve have told about picking the apple? Why is Pandora blamed for opening the box? And what about the fate of Cassandra who was blessed with knowing the future but cursed so that no one believed her?” \nFlipping through the pages of your high school history textbook\, how many stories are written about women as monumental protagonists? When was the last time you watched a movie that passed the Bechdel test? When was the last time there were more women than men on the Supreme Court voting on the right to our bodies?  \nAs brands of “faux” feminism partnered with consumerist culture push out media representing women’s liberation through a patriarchal gaze\, how can we reclaim the visual language to share more authentic stories? How can our art share the stories of women\, trans women\, and non-binary folks written out of the history books? How does your work give voice to the overlooked and underrepresented?  \nHera Gallery presents 52 works that rewrite this cultural consciousness for a more inclusive human history.” \nI am honored to have two pieces in this salient exhibition\, and participate in a small way\, in Rewriting Her/Our/Their Story.\nWHITE ZIP\n\n \nand \nINTO THE BUSH\n\n \nPlease see the SHOW here.\n

SUMMARY:EXHIBITIONISTA: BRAND 53: National Juried Show of Works on Paper
DESCRIPTION:I am thrilled to have my artists’ book\, “THIN ICE” made in collaboration with artist Luciana Abait\, shown in Brand 53: Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper   \n\n\nOpening Date: July 19\, 2025  \n\n\nThe Associates of Brand Library & Art Center in Glendale\, California host its 53rd Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper this summer. All works in the show will be on view in the beautiful Brand Library’s Gallery and in both printed and online exhibition catalogs.  \nThis year’s juror\, Sigrid Burton\, considers color and drawing as the foundation of her artistic practice and is noted for her works in oil on canvas or linen and mixed media on paper. She explores the natural world both literally and figuratively\, with the intention of making light and depth tangible and visible on a two-dimensional picture plane. Burton captures the phenomenological occurrence of reflection and refraction of light\, in particular\, water\, sky and deep space. Her studies of the art of the Indian subcontinent and its ancient and sophisticated aesthetic theory have influenced her thinking that the importance of a work of art is the response that the work evokes from the viewer. Within this context\, color is understood to have great expressive and communicative power. \nThe Brand Associates will be offering a printed exhibition catalog for purchase at Brand Library & Art Center.\nA digital version of the catalog is also available to download for free. \nView the Online CATALOG HERE!\nPlease see a video of show HERE with a talk by Juror Sigrid Burton\n
